(SPOT.ph) From a real-life reporter to a reel one: Inquirer.net reports that Atom Araullo will be starring in seasoned filmmaker Mike de Leon’s comeback film, Citizen Jake.
The article notes that De Leon is planning to collaborate on the screenplay with Araullo and writer Noel Pascual. The reporter himself has been given the go-signal by his ABS-CBN bosses, according to the Batch '81 and Kisapmata director.
Citizen Jake, according to de Leon, refers to “the world of citizen journalists, social media, and politics.” Of Araullo's role, the director notes: “I have a real journalist playing a fictional journalist in an investigative crime story with political overtones.”
Araullo in the article said he took the chance to work with de Leon because of the quality of his films. “I just couldn’t say no to Mike de Leon. I am taking this leap of faith because I believe in his ability to produce films of exceptional quality that are always imbued with social relevance,” he said. “Our discussions have been rather intense, but enjoyable,” Araullo adds. “Mike is a genius obviously, and I’m just trying my best to keep up. I really appreciate the trust he has given me in helping shape the script and its message.”
Aside from Araullo’s role, de Leon has not cast other characters until his upcoming film’s sequence treatment or first draft has been completed.
