Meet the real-life Barbs from MMFF's Die Beautiful

Christian Bables may be a newcomer, but he's already making waves.

( By now, the Metro Manila Film Festival is already coming to a close and you've probably already got your picks from the roster. One of the crowd-favoritesto the point that it ruled the box-office very early into the festivalis Jun Robles Lana's comedy-drama, Die Beautiful.

Many have praised its lead, Paolo Ballesteros, for his performance, but it's his co-star Christian Bables who has everyone talking. An early shoo-in for Best Supporting Actor, Bables stole the hearts of audiences as the funny and unwaveringly loyal Barbs, who stood by Trisha's (Ballesteros) side until the very end.

According to the film's producerPerci Intalan, the 24-year-old showbiz newcomer wasn't initially meant to play Barbs. Eventually, the team saw how "perfect" he was for the role: "He knew when to throw his lines and how to ride along with Paolo's ad lib. Even his body language complimented Paolo. You felt the friendship was real."

Bables has reportedly been doing workshops with Star Magic since 2011; for his role as Barbs, he researched and conducted interviews with the LGBT community. He previously worked with Intalan in the 2016 film I Love You to Death, where he played Kiray Celis' best friend.
