WATCH: The teaser for Netflix's Death Note live-action adaptation is finally here
First of all, it's a film and not a TV series.
(SPOT.ph) Adaptations are a tricky thing. Not only do you have to remain faithful to the source material (appeasing loyal fans), but you also have to bring something new to the table that will set it apart from the other iterations.
That heavy burden now falls on Netflix, which is venturing into the current adaptation trend with a live-action version of the beloved Japanese manga series, Death Note. At the center of the tale is The Fall in Our Stars lead Nat Wolff, who stumbles upon the titular notebook that kills anyone whose name is written on its pages.
He decides to use the notebook to kill criminals, unaware that he is being watched by the malevolent shinigami, Ryuk (Willem Dafoe). The film is helmed by Adam Wingard, who is best known for projects like 2011's You're Next and 2016's Blair Witch remake.
Death Note premieres on Netflix on August 25.
