Reports say Liza Soberano is officially the new Darna
...according to The Philippine Star, anyway.
(SPOT.ph) If showbiz columnist Ricky Lo of The Philippine Star is to be believed, we officially have a new Darna!
According to his source, 19-year-old Liza Soberano is currently undergoing "intense training" in a "secret place" to prevent any leaked images. The actress and model was one of the first names suggested by fans to take on the role, alongside Nadine Lustre, Pia Wurtzbach, Jessy Mendiola, and even Sarah Geronimo.
So far, neither Star Cinema nor director Erik Matti have confirmed the report. In a previous interview with SPOT.ph, Matti explained his approach to the character, saying she has to be a "21st Century modern woman" and added, "She'll be tackling modern-day issues that are faced by everyday women, such as gender roles in society and how she sees herself. She has to be a tough woman who has a fierceness to her."
In March 2017, Soberano's manager, Ogie Diaz, was quoted saying that she was one of the "choices" to play Darna. He also said that they would accept the role, should they be given the offer.
Soberano is currently working on her new TV show with her love team partner, Enrique Gil. She's also the new face of Sunnies Studios, as well as Maybelline, Olay, Coca-Cola, Kashieca, Palmolive, Samsung, and Cheetos.
