Hold Your High School Hearts: There's a Sweet Valley High Movie in the Works
Who can forget the Unicorns?
(SPOT.ph) As if we needed more signs that the ‘90s are back, here’s something to add to your nostalgia trip: Francine Pascal’s Sweet Valley High will soon be on the big screen! The book-turned-TV series follows the lives of Wakefield twins Elizabeth and Jessica, who have opposite personalities. Despite their differences and misadventures, these twins make sure they always have each other’s back at the end of the day.
Over 600 Sweet Valley High novels were released, along with a spinoff book series for the younger set called Sweet Valley Kids as well as one called Sweet Valley Twins, the series that started The Unicorn Club. There was also a four-season TV show based on the books which aired during the ‘90s.
Brittany and Cynthia Daniel, who played the lead roles, turned 40 in 2016. They shared this throwback picture last July when rumors about a potential movie started circulating.
According to Deadline, the task of adapting the series was given to Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Harper Dill, whose writing portfolio includes Legally Blonde, She’s The Man, House Bunny, and 10 Things I Hate About You.
No word yet on who will play the California twins but most entertainment news sites are speculating that the stories will get a 2017 treatment, similar to hit Netflix series Riverdale.
