Kita Kita Surpasses Heneral Luna as the Top-Grossing Pinoy Indie Film Ever

You'll be even more impressed when you hear their shooting budget.

(SPOT.ph) It's official: there's a new reigning indie box-office champ! Kita Kita, which stars Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez, has crossed the P300 million mark after four weeks in theaters.

Their staggering numbers surpassed another surprise box-office hit, Heneral Luna, which earned P257 million in 2015. Kita Kita is the only indie film to hit P300 million, as well as the 17th Filipino film overall to hit the major milestone.

Even more impressively, the film was shot with a modest budget of only P10 million; it was filmed around Hokkaido in Japan, and features de Rossi as a taxi tour guide suffering from temporary blindness after her engagement falls apart.

The success of Kita Kita has even led to talks of another film with both de Rossi and Marquez, which will reportedly be filmed in Iceland. It's still unclear, however, whether director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo will be back.
