A Campaign to Extend Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino Exists, and We're Here for It

(SPOT.ph) As of writing, today is the last day of the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, which originally ran from August 16 to 22. Over the long weekend, a hashtag, #ExtendPPP, quickly trended on social media and was later reposted by the festival's official Facebook page:

According to its mechanics, extension of screenings beyond the schedule will be "at the discretion of the theaters involved." So far, neither the festival nor theaters have announced any extended screenings, but we'll be sure to update you once we have information.

A report from Interaksyon.com also said that PPP will return next year, with six to eight full-length entries instead of the previous 12 to "allow for a more even distribution of cinemas and let each film earn more at the box-office."

As of August 20, the festival has earned P96 million, with films like 100 Tula Para Kay Stella, Patay Na Si Hesus, and Bar Boys leading the pack. As for awards, 100 Tula won Audience's Choice, Birdshot won Critics Choice, and Patay Na Si Hesus won Jury Prize.
