The Soundtrack of Ang Larawan Is Going Viral on Spotify
Do you have it on repeat, too?
(SPOT.ph) Ever since its premiere both internationally at the Tokyo International Film Festival and locally at the Metro Manila Film Festival (where it won Best Picture), Ang Larawan has wowed audiences and critics alike for its creative storytelling through its songs.
The movie-musical is based on Nick Joaquin’s A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino, which is often considered the “National Play of the Philippines.” Helmed by award-winning Broadway director and set designer Loy Arcenas, the film tells the story of two Filipino sisters during the American occupation who are being urged to sell their home because of financial difficulties. Their father, a renowned artist, hasn’t been able to produce paintings in a while and has distanced himself from his family.
Though it was pulled out from many cinemas during the first few days of its run, it’s now showing in more cinemas nationwide. Currently, songs from its official soundtrack (arranged by none other than Ryan Cayabyab!) are climbing the Philippines Viral 50 chart on Spotify. They include Cris Villonco and Aicelle Santos’ "A Tisket A Tasket," Robert Arevalo’s "Hindi Simple Ang Buhay," Joanna Ampil and Rachel Alejandro’s "Walang Ilaw," and Paulo Avelino’s "Ang Piyanista."
