WATCH: If You Liked Gone Girl, You Should Check Out This New Series
It's also from the people behind Get Out and Big Little Lies!
(SPOT.ph) You've probably already seen the roller-coaster ride that is Gone Girl a.k.a. Amy Dunne's (Rosamund Pike) ruthlessly complicated revenge plan on her husband Nick (Ben Affleck). And you probably still can't unsee that ridiculously bloody and brutal scene with Amy and her poor ex-boyfriend Desi (Neil Patrick Harris). But the craziness of it all might just be the reason you also loved it—and that's why the premiere of HBO's Sharp Objects in July is something you should keep on your psycho-thriller radar.
Like Gone Girl, the eight-episode miniseries is also based on another one of Gillian Flynn's bestselling books, Sharp Objects. It stars award-winning actress Amy Adams as Camille, a crime reporter who's just been released from psychiatric hospital after getting treatment for self-inflicted harm. She goes back to her hometown to investigate the deaths of two preteen girls, but as she pursues the case, their stories seem to intertwine with her own.
All episodes of the show are directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, whose works include the award-winning film Dallas Buyers Club and HBO's star-studded miniseries, Big Little Lies. He co-writes some of the episodes alongside Flynn. You're also sure to get your fair share of disturbing and hair-raising scenes because Jason Blum, who produced 2017's horror hit Get Out, is an executive producer on Sharp Objects.
Sharp Objects is set to premiere on HBO and stream on HBO GO in July.
