Erik Matti's Action-Thriller Buy Bust Might Be Hitting Theaters Sooner Than You Think
The cast, including Anne Curtis, has already watched it.
(SPOT.ph) It's another great year for Philippine cinema and for local indie movies. Mike de Leon's comeback film Citizen Jake is finally screening nationwide (amid all the off-screen drama) and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, the much-awaited sequel to Heneral Luna is also coming up. There are also a couple more indie films to look forward to, but one of the highly anticipated ones include Erik Matti's action-thriller, Buy Bust.
The premiere for the film was initially set for February 28 of this year, but it was moved to a later date because they're "planning a bigger Buy Bust" and they are also preparing for an international release in North America. They still haven't announced the new official release date just yet, but it looks like it'll be sooner than expected, because there has already been a screening held for selected audiences.
In an Instagram post on May 30, Matti expressed his excitement over letting the cast watch the nearly completed film. "We’re slowly inching up to our theater release. We’ll make the announcement soon. And stay [tuned] for our world premiere. Finally completed this. Not so complete though with some more tweaks that only us filmmakers are obsessively compulsive about. I hope everyone can see this movie already."
One of the people who watched the screening is Anne Curtis herself, who plays Nina Manigan in the movie. Nina is an agent from the Philippine Drug Enforcemen Agency who has a task to catch drug dealers during a buy-bust operation in the slums of Metro Manila. But while on the mission, she and her fellow agents get stuck in the drug den they're investigating. The local residents—who have suffered from civilian casualties because of previous operations—turn against them. The film also stars Joross Gamboa, Victor Neri, Brandon Vera, AJ Muhlach, and Nonie Buencamino.
