Attention, Kids-at-Heart: A Live-Action Gundam Movie Is in the Works
Time to bring out those old toys!
(SPOT.ph) Whether you're willing to admit it or not (but we're betting you are), Gundam probably had a big impact on your childhood. There was the anime series that first got you hooked. And of course, there's also the DIY toys you painstakingly put together yourself every afternoon—the small parts, the colors, the modifications! Gundam was (and probably still is) a phenomenon that kids-at-heart look back on with fondness.
Now, you can look forward to your childhood appearing on the big screen because the studio behind the original series, Japan's Sunrise Inc. is teaming up with Legendary Pictures for a live-action version of Gundam.
The original anime series began in 1979, featuring giant robots (a.k.a. mecha) that are called mobile suits. It takes place during the Universal Century, when humans have moved to outer space and created colonies. The people who have moved to the colonies fight for independence—using the mobile suits—from those who have stayed behind on planet Earth.
Producer Cale Boyter, who's worked on Blade: Trinity, The Butterfly Effect, and Pacific Rim: Uprising, will be overlooking the project. There have been no announcements made about the movie's directors and cast so far.
