Classic Pinoy Horror Film Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara Is Getting a Remake
From Susan Roces to Lorna Tolentino to Kris Aquino and now, Nathalie Hart.
(SPOT.ph) Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara has gone through many titular Barbaras—from 1974's Susan Roces, to 1995's Lorna Tolentino, and to 2008's Kris Aquino (for a TV mini-series on ABS-CBN). There's a reason why it's been remade so many times before. The horror film is one of the classics, with a creepy setting that involves family, love, and revenge—everything that Pinoys love in a story. Now, the film is once again getting a remake from Star Cinema, this time starring 26-year-old actress Nathalie Hart according to a report by ABS-CBN's Push.
Hart is known as one of the 2009 finalists of GMA's talent reality competition StarStruck. Her movies include 2016's Siphayo and 2018's Sin Island. She's currently part of ABS-CBN's teleserye, The Blood Sisters.
In case you don't remember—or if you're too scared to recall—Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara revolves around two sisters, Barbara and Ruth. Ruth has always been spoiled by Barbara, who gives in to her sister's every whim. And when they end up falling in love with the same guy, Nick (in the 2008 version his name is Fritz), Barbara tells Nick to go for her sister instead. Nick and Ruth end up getting married while Barbara moves to the United States. Barbara comes home when she finds out that Ruth has killed herself in front of her daughter with Nick, but finds something else waiting for her.
In the original 1974 movie directed by Celso Ad Castillo which stars Roces, Ruth is played by Rosanna Ortiz while Nick is played by Dante Rivero. In the 1995 version directed by Chito S. Roño, Tolentino's Barbara is with Dawn Zulueta's Ruth and Tonton Gutierrez's Nick. The mini-series from 2008 directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng and Gilbert Perez stars Aquino, Jodi Sta. Maria, and Albert Martinez.
There's no word yet about the rest of the cast in the latest remake, but fingers crossed they'll be just as terrifying as the ones before. The film is reportedly set to premiere in November 2018.
