WATCH: The Writer of Critically Acclaimed Respeto Has a Gritty New Movie
He's also a Palanca winner.
(SPOT.ph) There have been a lot of great Pinoy films over the past few years, but among those that stand out is the indie drama Respeto. It was, after all, the Best Film winner of Cinemalaya 2017—not to mention it recently just won the Silver Tiger Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film at the recently concluded New York Asian Film Festival. And now you can expect more drama to unfold because Respeto's Palanca-winning writer, Njel de Mesa, has a new movie called Kontradiksyon that's set to be released in the second half of 2018.
De Mesa also serves as the director of Kontradiksyon, which is actually a play on the words "kontra" and "adiksyon," as it takes on the controversial war on drugs of the Philippine government. Plot details are still scarce, but it stars Jake Cuenca, Katrina Halili, Kris Bernal, Elizabeth Oropesa, Paolo Paraiso, and John Estrada among others. Kontradiksyon is also the first movie from the relaunched Bell Films, the production arm of Universal Records Philippines.
