Legendary Music Venue B-Side Is Closing This Month
See you at their closing party?
(SPOT.ph) There are a lot of great places in the Metro for live music and some of them have made a big impact on the Pinoy music scene—one of them being B-Side, located at The Collective along Malugay Street in Makati City. The bar is known for Irie Sundays, where groovy reggae, dancehall, rock, and ska music take center stage. You might even get a chance to watch a couple of rap battles every now and then. And of course, you get to enjoy all of this while downing a couple of beers, perfectly paired with your street-food fix. But B-Side is now down to its last two Irie Sundays because it's closing down by the end of September.
In a poster, September 23 is marked as the last day for Irie Sunday, with Holy Jam and Lady I performing. There's also a Facebook event page for B-Side's Closing Party, that's scheduled for September 29 at 5 p.m. until September 30 at 5 a.m.
Pinoy indie-rock band Autotelic shared their own memories of the music venue. In a Facebook post on September 8, they said, "Kagabi na yata ang last gig namin sa B-Side kasi magsasara na ang venue sa katapusan ng buwan." They then enumerate why B-Side is so special to them as a band. It's where they launched their 2016 album, Papunta Pabalik. They also recalled going all out with a performance of their song "Laro" even when the sound system broke down.
There has been no official statement about why B-Side is closing down. SPOT.ph has reached out to B-Side for comment.
B-Side is at 7274 Malugay Street, San Antonio Village, Makati City.
