You Can Finally Stream Heneral Luna on Netflix
It joins Mikhail Red's Birdshot.
(SPOT.ph) Even with its sequel Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral taking the spotlight this year, movie buffs still can’t get over the masterpiece that is Heneral Luna. Much has been said about the film since its release in 2015, with its critical and commercial success a groundbreaking one for the local independent film scene. This year, it's bound to make waves again as it hits Netflix on November 1. It joins Mikhail Red's Birdshot (2016), which was the first Pinoy film to be made available on Netflix.
Directed by Jerrold Tarog, the film follows the life of General Antonio Luna (John Arcilla) during the Philippine-American war. With a script that doesn’t dice its words and actors that bravely depict their characters, the film immediately became one of the most talked-about movies in 2015.
Four weeks after its release, Heneral Luna became the highest-grossing historical film in the Philippines with P172 million in box office sales, eventually becoming the highest earning independent film when it reached P256 million (topped by Kita Kita in 2017).
Heneral Luna was selected as the Philippines' entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards. Though it wasn’t shortlisted, it's still a must-watch Filipino film.
Update as of October 31, 2018 (10:30 a.m.): Heneral Luna's official release date on Netflix is on November 1. It was previously announced on TBA Studios' Facebook Page that the release date was on October 31.
