(SPOT.ph) Juan Miguel Severo—whom you might know from his spoken word poetry and roles in On the Wings of Love and The Hows of Us—first staged Hintayan ng Langit as a one-act play at The Virgin Labfest in 2015 and 2016. The play was eventually adapted into a film that premiered at the 2018 QCinema International Film Festival in October. In addition to Eddie Garcia earning the award for Best Actor, the film also won the Audience Choice Award, so it's not much of a surprise that Hintayan ng Langit is getting a nationwide screening starting on November 21.
In the film, Lisang (Gina Pareño) is a 60-something woman stuck in purgatory after dying from complications of diabetes two years prior. To pass the time (and to keep herself entertained), she sometimes causes trouble with the other souls who are also in heaven's waiting room. After what feels like an eternity of waiting, she finally gets the news that she's crossing over to heaven. But just as she gets ready to leave her room in purgatory, she meets the new tenant: Her ex-boyfriend Manolo (Garcia). The two then start to reconnect while helping each other figure out what life—and life back on earth—means after their death.
Hintayan ng Langit is directed by Dan Villegas, who also helmed tearjerkers like Walang Forever, Changing Partners, and more recently, Exes Baggage. That's why you're sure to be in for a roller-coaster of emotions. The film was produced by Project 8 corner San Joaquin Projects and Globe Studios.
Hintayan ng Langit opens in cinemas nationwide on November 21.
