Chito S. Roño's Signal Rock Is Up for Awards Consideration at the Golden Globes
The film has been invited for a screening!
(SPOT.ph) First, it won the Critics' Choice Award at the 2018 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. Then, it was submitted as the Philippines' entry for the Foreign Language Film category of the 91st Academy Awards (otherwise known as the Oscars). But it seems that Chito S. Roño's Signal Rock is still continuing its winning streak. According to Signal Rock's Facebook page, the film has been invited for a screening at the 76th Golden Globe Awards as it's up for awards consideration under the Foreign Language Film category.
Set in the '90s, Signal Rock follows the story of Intoy (played by Die Beautiful's Christian Bables), who lives with his aging parents in Samar. While he's trying to take care of them, his sister Vicky moves to Finland for work so she can send money back home. She eventually marries a foreigner but things don't go as planned and she gets stuck in a custody battle for their child. Intoy tries to help his sister win the case, but the only way he can talk to her is by going to the rocks by the shore since it's the only spot in their town that has signal.
The story, which was written by Rody Vera (Die Beautiful, Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral), was actually inspired by true events. The people behind Signal Rock were filming a different film in a location where they had to go to the shore to be able to call or text anyone. The cast of Signal Rock also includes Elora Españo, Daria Ramirez, Nanding Josef, Mara Lopez, Francis Magundayao, Sue Prado, and Dido Dela Paz, while Vicky is voiced by Judy Ann Santos.
