Filipino Graphic Novel Trese Is Going to Be a Netflix Series
It's about a heroine living with mythical creatures in Manila!
(SPOT.ph) More and more Filipino titles have been added to Netflix's slate recently. From Mikhail Red's Birdshot to Jerrold Tarog's Heneral Luna, to a bunch of blockbuster hits like Kita Kita, BuyBust, and That Thing Called Tadhana. And now, Netflix is taking it one step further with a new anime series based on Trese, a Filipino graphic novel created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo.
The series of the same name will revolve around a character named Alexandra Trese, who lives in Manila where mythical creatures from Philippine folklore live amongst the humans of the city. But of course, this set-up doesn't come without problems as she soon clashes with supernatural beings from the criminal underworld.
If that's not enough of a plot to get you hooked, you'll be glad to know that Jay Oliva, who has worked on Wonder Woman and The Legend of Korra (the spin-off of Avatar: The Last Airbender), will be serving as the series' executive producer—which can only mean Alexandra will soon be your new favorite heroine. It will also be produced by Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson from BASE Entertainment, a Jakarta- and Singapore-based studio.
