GMA's Pinoy Remake of Descendants of the Sun Is Set to Air This Year
There's no word on the cast yet.
(SPOT.ph) There's no questioning how the K-Drama fever has taken over Pinoy fans over the past few years. Ask anyone and they've definitely watched—or at least promised their K-Drama-addicted friends that they would watch—Descendants of the Sun. The 2016 award-winning series, which stars the now-married couple Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, became a hit for its depiction of a love story in the battlefield. Joong-ki plays Captain Yoo Si-jin a.k.a. Big Boss, the leader of an elite military team while Hye-kyo plays Doctor Kang Mo-yeon a.k.a. Beauty, a volunteer doctor.
After airing a Filipino-dubbed version of the show in 2016, GMA announced plans for a Pinoy remake of the hit show back in 2017. It looks like we're finally going to see it come to life because they've finally included the show in their lineup for 2019.
In an interview with Pep in 2017, GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth G. Rasonable says the cast was yet to be formed but they're open to having Alden Richards in the lead. "I'm not saying that hindi pwede kay Alden kasi sa totoo lang, bagay na bagay rin siya. Kung siya, I'll be very happy." She continues, "We have to prepare for it. It's very grand. Mukhang simple lang 'yong story pero the settings, how they are situated, medyo kailangang paghandaan, pag-isipan, pati casting."
There have been no announcements about the show's cast as of writing. GMA previously also made a Pinoy adaptation of My Love From the Star in 2017, which starred Jennylyn Mercado and Gil Cuerva.
