This Funny-But-Sad Edit of Mike de Leon's Citizen Jake Sums Up Election Feels

Mike de Leon isn't one to hold back.

(SPOT.ph) Acclaimed auteur Mike de Leon isn't one to hold back when it comes to his political views. He did just that with his latest film, the political thriller Citizen Jake, which criticizes the government—both past and present. If you were able to catch the film during its run (or if you've streamed it online), then you know that one of the standout scenes of the film is when Jake's (Atom Araullo) professor Lucas (Lou Veloso) goes on a rant in a restaurant about election season in the Philippines while Jake's girlfriend Mandy (Max Collins) looks on helplessly.

While the scene was already great on its own, an edited version of the clip was uploaded on Citizen Jake's Facebook page on March 5, along with the caption, "An updated clip for the 2019 Elections of a scene from Citizen Jake. Lucas reminds us of the futility (and stupidity) of Philippine Elections."

In the clip, Lucas starts shouting, "Eleksyon na naman, yes!" he says, sarcastically rejoicing. "New set of assholes! Nagpapalit lang ang mga naghahari-harian," he continues. "Ang tatanga nating lahat!"

His rant is edited with photos of some of the candidates for the 2019 elections, including Bong Go, Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, and Bong Revilla. WIth this clip on top of his new short film Kangkungan, it's safe to say you'll be hearing more and more from de Leon soon.
