(SPOT.ph) Get ready for one of the biggest nights in music, with the 25th edition of Fête de la Musique happening on June 21, 22, 28 and 29! To mark this special occasion, the festival is coming back in a huge way: Two main stages and more than 50 pocket stages in Metro Manila, all for free!
This year's fête is a project of the Alliance Française de Manille with the French Embassy and B-Side Productions. The tradition traces its roots way back to 1982, when Maurice Fleuret of the French Ministry of Culture led the first ever music festival in Paris.
"It's a French tradition that has become a platform for us to promote and showcase Filipino talent," says Giselle Tomimbang, Managing Partner of B-Side Productions, in an interview with SPOT.ph, "It's basically a Filipino event with some French color," she adds.
The festival officially opens on June 21 with the A Venue Open Parking Main Stage, starting at 4 p.m. Rock out to Ebe Dancel and bands like Ang Bandang Shirley and Itchyworms. This lineup even includes a special 25-minute production of different genres and artists, to be led by Francis de Veyra. June 22 will bring the party to Greenbelt 3 Park, also at 4 p.m. with bands like Ciudad, Autotelic, and Urbandub.
A total of 52 pocket stages will also be simultaneously playing on the 22nd, with each gig concentrating on a specific genre or type. Be sure to check out your local bars, creative spaces, and cultural hubs around Makati for those stages.
Intramuros will also be part of the festival with a concert at the Puerta Real Gardens at 4p.m. on June 28. The lineup includes up-and-coming artists like Munimuni, and Leanne & Naara, with Pinoy music scene veterans Sandwich and Radha.
The festival will continue with main stages in six different areas. Music lovers in Baguio, Batangas, Bulacan, Laguna, Palawan, and Pampanga can join in on the fun as they will have their own main and pocket stages on June 29.
There will also be three Pre-Fête de la Musique parties—a new event in celebration of their 25th-anniversary—all happening on June 15. Catch Dong Abay, Mojofly, and more acts at the Pre-Fête de la Musique Stage at the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium; or you can party with DJs Butta B, Coox Moreno, and more in the Sunset Collective Stage at KMC Skydeck. There will also be a Rockeoke Stage at Salon de Ning, The Peninsula.
Their closing party happens on June 29 at 20:20 and XX:XX, organized by Alliance Française de Manille with DocDef Productions and Gabi Na Naman Productions.
Fête de la Musique will also be giving away two round-trip tickets to France for anybody who shares, in a 25-second video, their most special memory of the festival. You can stay updated on this contest and all the gigs and events through the Fête de la Musique PH app, which was first launched in the festival's run last year.
Fête de la Musique is on June 21 at A Venue Open Parking Lot; June 22 at Greenbelt 3 Park; June 28 at Puerto Real Gardens in Intramuros; and on June 29 in selected areas of Baguio, Batangas, Bulacan, Laguna, Palawan, and Pampanga. For more information, visit Fête de la Musique's Facebook page.
