(SPOT.ph) You might not think of it now as much as you did as a kid, but the possibility of getting a superpower is still as exciting. You may have wanted cool ones in your youth, like invisibility, the ability to take flight, or super strength. You might be wanting more practical ones like unli-cash and teleportation to beat the traffic. It's all fun and games, really, until those powers become a responsibility, or a burden. The New Mutants trailer just dropped and it shows just how life-threatening special abilities can get.
Native American Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt) survives a fiery tragedy only to wake up in a facility that claims she survived because she is special. To help her acclimate to a life of controlling her unknown power, she is introduced to teens her age who also possess unique abilites: Russian sorceress Illyana (Anya Taylor-Joy) who has killed 18 men, Scottish mutant Rahne (Maisie Williams) who can transform into a wolf, American boy Sam (Charlie Heaton) with the ability to fly, and Brazilian mutant Roberto (Henry Zaga) who accidentally burned his girlfriend because of his powers.
Under the guidance and protection of a seemingly kind doctor named Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga), the five of them are put through a series of tests to see the extent of their powers. As they are exposed to their fears over and over again, emerging more traumatized each time, the gang realize that the promise of safety might in fact be their prison.
The New Mutants will hit U.S. theaters on April 3, but we'll update you once we catch wind of a Philippine release date.
