(SPOT.ph) The Philippine bet just rocked the Miss Universe stage with the best interpretation of our national costume we've seen as of late. We're talking Darna. Yup, Celeste Cortesi donned the gold and red colors of our (fictional) national hero at New Orleans, Louisiana on January 12, Philippine time—and nope, people online could not get enough. Apart from the Q&A portion, the evening gown, the actual coronation, and well, basically the entire thing, the National Costume portion is usually the one that gets the pageant-loving Pinoy crowd the most hyped up. And based on people's reactions, Cortesi and her team's interpretation really stepped up the National Costume game.

Cortesi donned the instantly recognizable red two-piece for her costume. "Darna is the ultimate Filipina superhero and part of this country's pop culture," the voiceover notes as she struts down the stage. And while we've had countless strong figures represent Darna—from Vilma Santos to Angel Locsin, not to mention today's Jane de Leon—Cortesi stood her own ground in the costume. Plus, we're pretty sure the voiceover's "Have no fear, 'cause Darna is here" is going to be stuck in our collective consciousness for a good long while.
The two-piece was designed by Oliver Tolentino while the headpiece and other metalwork accessories were by Jerome Navarro. A piece that incorporates the Philippine flag's sun rays surround the superhero—we mean, Cortesi.
While she was only able to rep the superhero for a short while at the Miss Universe, we've no doubt she was able to make a mark on the viewers worldwide. Really, we're just glad Darna can get the global recognition she deserves. And if this is just a sample of what's to come on coronation night on January 14, Saturday, we're sure Twitter's going to be an even bigger party. Take a look at some of the hilarious and excited reactions below, from fellow industry players cheering her on to diehard fans finally breathing a sigh of relief for the much-needed Darna representation.
