(SPOT.ph) It all started in a press conference for transgender musician Aiza Seguerra's new show where he mentioned plans to have a baby with his wife, Liza Diño, through in vitro fertilization (IVF). He shared that the eggs would be from him and once fertilized by a sperm donor, would be carried to term by Liza. He also added that the procedure will be conducted in the U.S., where they can choose a donor from a cryobank.
Unfortunately for the couple, the news was met with plenty of homophobic comments, which Aiza shared on Instagram:
Meanwhile, Liza took to her Facebook page to express her disappointment at the comments. "Every time something like this comes up, naglalabasan ang lahat ng mga homophobic at nagpipiyesta sa mga negative comments kasama ng mga self-righteous na may mga baong Bible quotations," she wrote. "Dati umiiyak ako, lalo 'pag below the belt na ang mga sinasabi—'yong tipong ipapa-rape nila kami o kaya titirahin nila ko para makatikim daw ako ng lalaki."
She also said that she has since become more mature about receiving homophobic remarks, but added, "Mas lalo kong nakita ang kahalagahan ng ginawa namin para kilalanin ang karapatan ng mga LGBT dito sa Pilipinas. Nakakalungkot isipin how 'religion' can lead to hatred, animosity, and discrimination when our spirituality is supposed to enhance our lives and make us better persons."
In a later comment, she thanked fans for their support and said, "This is not just for us. Pinapatibay ninyo ang loob ng iba pang LGBT na natatakot mag-come out dahil sa sasabihin ng iba."
