(SPOT.ph) Veteran actor Julio Diaz was rushed to the hospital on April 8 after a stroke. His sister, Ana Marie Datuin, said that he had passed out due to a "severe headache" and CT scan revealed that a swelling vein needed surgery within the next 48 hours to avoid an aneurysm.
She took to crowdfunding website GoFundMe to appeal for donations totalling U.S. $25,000 (about P1.1 million). As of writing, 244 people have donated a total of U.S. $10,860 or over P500,000 for the operation at St. Luke's Hospital at Bonifacio Global City.
A separate April 11 report from PEP.ph said that Diaz is currently in the ICU and under observation, as he is still in critical condition. A Facebook post from Datuin also said that he underwent a "coiling procedure," which would prevent blood flow from entering the aneurysm.
The actor is best known for his roles from the '80s and '90s, particularly the historical films Bayani in 1992 and Sakay in 1993. His most recent roles include two critically acclaimed films from 2015: Zig Dulay's Bambanti and Brillante Mendoza's Taklub.
