Pia Wurtzbach joins AIDS Walk in New York City
She also has a message for Rodrigo Duterte.
(SPOT.ph) It's no secret that HIV/AIDS is an important cause to Pia Wurtzbach, having been previously named #HIV Prevention Ambassador by Aid for AIDS in February 2016.
Miss Universe 2015 recently joined the annual AIDS Walk in New York City where over 30,000 people participated in a 10-kilometer walk, raising about U.S. $4.5 million for AIDS organizations. Pia took to her Instagram account to share photos from the event:
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Pia encouraged Filipinos to get tested, saying, "Kung anuman ang maging resulta nito mabigyan kayo ng tamang edukasyon kung paano niyo mapo-protektahan ang inyong sarili, kung positive man kayo paano niyo magagamot 'yong sarili mo para magkaroon ka ng normal na buhay."
She also had a message for incoming president Rodrigo Duterte, saying, "I can only hope that this [event] can also happen in the Philippines, especially with the new administration. I really have high hopes that we will see a better Philippines in the future."
In 2015, the World Health Organization said the Philippines has "one of the fastest growing HIV epidemics."
