Is Brillante Mendoza directing Duterte's first SONA?
He seems pretty open to the idea.
(SPOT.ph) According to a report from ABS-CBN, Cannes-winning director Brillante Mendoza has received an invitation from incoming President Rodrigo Duterte to "direct" his first State of the Nation Address.
We're not entirely sure what directing a State of the Nation Address (SONA) could actually entail, but Mendoza seemed pretty open to the idea, saying, "Why not? Some of them got in touch with me already asking for suggestion [sic] kung anong puwedeng gawin."

Mendoza was accompanied by incoming Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, who confirmed the invitation. He also said that Duterte has asked Mendoza for suggestions on how to boost the country's indie filmmaking scene.
Andanar was reportedly one of Mendoza's filmmaking workshop students in 2015. The director is currently busy preparing for the commercial release of his film, Ma Rosa, which won star Jaclyn Jose a Best Actress trophy at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
