(SPOT.ph) The anticipation for the upcoming Miss Universe pageant is at an all-time high. While some have their sights set on the coronation event or the swimsuit and long gown competitions, many are looking forward to the National Costumes.
Each intricate, outrageous, and eye-catching outfit must feature elements that depict the beauty queen's country and unique culture. Some of this year's contenders, including Miss Thailand and Miss Australia, have already given fans a sneak preview of what they're donning on the runway.

Miss Dominican Republic's costume is inspired by the paintings of Cándido Bidó, their first painter to have an exhibit in France.
Miss Venezuela's intricately embellished number is a clear contender with the "Queen of the Sea" theme.
Miss Panama's colorful costume is called "Traje de Fantasia."
Miss Singapore's phoenix-like gown is inspired by traditional Peranakan (Straits-born Chinese) weddings.
Miss Sweden will be celebrating "children empowerment" with a dress honoring Queen Silvia of Sweden on her 70th anniversary.

Miss Finland's festive dress celebrates one of their most famous landmarks, the Santa Claus Village.
