All the Ladies Who Stole John Lloyd Cruz’s Heart

...and some rumored ones, too.

( Can you believe that we’ve known John Lloyd Cruz since he was only 14? His lengthy career spans from his early days in Star Magic and Koolits (remember them?) to your favorite rom-coms and more recently, critically acclaimed independent dramas. We all know him as a dashing leading man, but it turns out that his real-life relationships are just as colorful—maybe even more so—than what we see onscreen.

With all the recent headlines involving Ellen Adarna, we decided to look back at the ladies who have (or allegedly) stolen JLC’s heart off-camera.

Kaye Abad

Kids of the ‘90s will remember Eds and Rovic from Tabing Ilog, but it wasn’t until 2012 when John Lloyd admitted to being “very much in love” with his co-star. Their relationship reportedly lasted for six months, and both parties have confessed that they were too young at the time. JLC and Kaye reunited in 2015 for an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya.

Krista Ranillo

It wasn’t until 2008 when Krista Ranillo admitted a three-month relationship with John Lloyd years ago. According to a report from, the two had met on the set of Tabing Ilog, where Krista’s father, Mat Ranillo III played the fictional father of Kaye Abad’s character. There was no overlapping here: Krista and JLC only briefly dated after he split with Kaye. The former actress infamously made headlines in late 2009 after being linked to Manny Pacquiao.

Ciara Sotto

JLC’s career began to take off in 2001, but his personal life was the subject of many headlines, thanks to a controversial on-and-off relationship with Ciara Sotto. There were rumors of John Lloyd being forced to hide his newfound relationship to avoid upsetting fans of the JLC-Bea tandem. Ciara, on the other hand, was accused of allegedly spreading rumors about his excessive drinking and rumored affair with another actress. After a tumultuous two years, they called it quits. In August 2016, the pair reunited for an episode of JLC’s weekly sitcom, Home Sweetie Home.

Liz Uy

At the height of John Lloyd’s most popular films, One More Chance and A Very Special Love, he began dating stylist Liz Uy, whom he spotted (and “videotaped”) in Hong Kong. Their paths crossed again in Manila and they eventually went on to date for a surprisingly quiet three years. To this day, neither of the two have divulged the exact reason behind their amicable split, but in a previous interview with ABS-CBN, Liz hinted at it, saying, “We lived together and we kind of stunted each other's growth. We grew, but then we grew apart.” The two still remain friends to this day.

Ruffa Gutierrez

In 2008, John Lloyd and Ruffa Gutierrez met on the set of I Love Betty La Fea. A friendship eventually blossomed into a serious relationship by 2009. They both had to keep it under wraps, even after they were photographed entering a hotel in Beverly Hills. In a post-breakup tell-all interview, Ruffa dropped one bombshell after another including: JLC being a ladies’ man, his alleged drinking problem, and his reportedly overlapping relationship with Shaina Magdayao (which he denied to Boy Abunda). It seems that everything worked out eventually, however, because Ruffa also had a guest-starring role in Home Sweetie Home in July 2015.

Shaina Magdayao

His two-year relationship with Shaina was plagued with controversy even from the beginning. Shaina was also hounded with accusations that she had confronted his then-girlfriend, Ruffa. Then there’s the infamous scandal that has somehow spawned into what is now showbiz urban legend. Several years later, they both assured fans that there was no bad blood between them; they even momentarily worked together in the drama series, Nathaniel.

Angelica Panganiban

John Lloyd and Angelica Panganiban’s paths crossed while shooting the film 24/7 In Love in Vietnam; at the time, Angelica had been dating Derek Ramsay for six years, while John Lloyd was still with Shaina. It didn’t take too long, however, until they both admitted their relationship status. Breakup rumors began to emerge in June 2015, but it wasn’t until May 2016 when they confirmed their split after four years of dating. The two have since been spotted out-and-about together, which only fueled rumors that they’ve rekindled their romance—though they’ve remained mum on the issue.

Maja Salvador

After splitting with Angelica, John Lloyd was linked to two former leading ladies, including Maja Salvador. The former One More Chance co-stars were photographed seeing a movie together and later, frolicking on a beach in Davao alongside their Star Magic handler. The latter was quick to quash the dating rumors and said that the two were there for work.

Bea Alonzo

It’s every John Lloyd fan’s dream for him to shack up with his perennial leading lady, Bea Alonzo—and in April 2016, it seemed like it was finally becoming reality. Word of their possible romance spread when the two broke off their respective relationships just one month apart. Bea ended her five-year relationship with Zanjoe Marudo in December 2015, while John Lloyd called it quits with Angelica in January. There were also claims that they were cozying up to each other in Balesin Island, which Bea had denied. They have yet to officially reunite onscreen since their box-office hit, A Second Chance.
