Andi Eigenmann Clarifies That She Is Quitting Showbiz, Not Acting

She told CNN Philippines that she will continue making movies.

( Last week, October 2, Andi Eigenmann made headlines after mentioning she "left showbiz" during a heated argument with an Instagram commenter. Now, the actress has clarified her statement in a lengthy interview with CNN Philippines, saying that she will continue acting in movies.

"Hindi naman sa iniiwan ko ‘yong film industry pero ayaw ko na ng showbiz,” she told CNN. "I was born into the film industry and acting and filmmaking is something that I'll always be passionate about."

She continued, "It's just that I feel that I grew out of that whole showbiz stigma, I don't want to force myself to be perceived as a person [who] I'm really not. I just want to be known for what I do as an actor and not be defined by who they think I am based on the news."

Andi explained that her decision to quit being an artista to solely focus on being an actress came two years ago when she told her manager she was no longer happy. "[Showbiz] resulted to me being depressed, not really being happy. I’d always get into trouble; I’d always be on the news, which is something people thought I liked."

She also talked about her frustrations with the industry, like how she wasn't "allowed to step out of the house without makeup" and how it didn't "really abide by [her] values as a human being." As for the kind of movie roles she'd like to do, she mentioned interest in action and coming-of-age films.

Andi's last major project was for the family-themed ABS-CBN drama series, The Greatest Love, which aired from September 2016 to April 2017, as well as the 2016 film, Camp Sawi
