Rabiya Mateo Will Be Having an All-Red Homecoming Parade Tomorrow

Iloilo best be ready to paint the city red!

(SPOT.ph) A few weeks have passed since Rabiya Mateo was crowned Miss Universe Philippines on October 25 and she is finally set to come home to Iloilo City—complete with a bright red homecoming event on Thursday, November 12. Mateo's motorcade parade starts at 9 a.m. and to make the event extra special, city mayor Jerry Treñas has called on people to welcome Mateo with everything red!

The bright hue is the same one she wore when she was crowned Miss Universe Philippines, and of course, the same color she used to describe a phenomenal woman in her answer during the pageant's preliminary interviews.

We will paint Iloilo City red! My beloved Ilonggos, we encourage you to come and welcome our Miss Universe Philippines...

"We will paint Iloilo City red!" said Treñas in a post showing Mateo's motorcade route. It will start at the Richmonde Hotel and end at Jaro Cathedral. The mayor told people to wear red and bring red flaglets, banners, and the like. Health protocols such as social distancing will still be enforced so be sure to bring your face masks and shields, too! "Let us show the Ilonggos’ power by wearing red," he wrote, adding "It is a day to celebrate and be proud of being an Ilonggo."

"I feel that a phenomenal woman is red, because red is power, and I am red." These are the now-famous words uttered by Mateo when she was asked what color describes a phenomenal woman during the preliminaries. Mateo stayed true to her words and wore an intricate gown in a deep shade of red designed by Jung Candelario to the pageant finals.
