Tie a String Around the World, which was put on show at the Venice Art Biennale in 2015, marks the country’s return to the prestigious festival after a 51-year absence. It features the reinterpretation of contemporary artists Jose Tence Ruiz and Manny Montelibano to a film about Genghis Khan created in 1950 by National Artists Manuel Conde and Carlos “Botong” Francisco. Now on display at the College of Saint Benilde, student artists also present their response to the show through two programs: An exhibition of speculative designs for the contested islands of the West Philippine Sea, and a showcase of reimagined costumes for Genghis Khan.
