UPDATED FEED: 'Kinatay' almost didn't premiere last night
The organizers of the Philippine premiere of Kinatay, Brilliante Mendoza's film for which he won Best Director at this year's Cannes Film Festival, heaved a collective sigh of relief after the MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board) released the controversial movie around 5:30 p.m. yesterday, July 30, in time for its 7:30 p.m. screening at the UP Film Center last night. Reports say that the UP Film Institute was placed under "preventive suspension," but the Philippine premiere of the film went on as scheduled, with Kinatay spared from any katay (cuts) by the censors.
