SPOT.ph wonders if Pampanga Representative Mikey Arroyo regrets agreeing to a live interview with feisty TV anchor Solita "Winnie" Monsod, who along with Arnold Clavio questioned Arroyo about his alleged properties in California on Sept. 1 on the GMA-7 program Unang Hirit. Monsod and Clavio went over Rep. Arroyo's declaration of assets and liabilities and asked him who owns the house, which he claims was bought by a company called Beach Way Park LLC, of which he owns 40%.
In the clip below, Monsod appeared to be peeved by Arroyo's reticence in answering her questions directly. She asked him to explain how his income rose from P5 million in 2002, to P76 million in 2005, to P99 million in 2008 on a congressman's salary and to divulge the names of the properties shareholders (he refused). She lectured him about his responsibilities as a public official to be transparent about his assets and liabilities. At one point, Arroyo said "As far as I am concerned, here is my Statement of Assets and Liabilities (SAL) and it is self-explanatory," and "If you are in doubt, sue me in court." Monsod said "No, no, no, Mikey…what you are telling us is that I want to make it difficult for you because kawawa naman 'yung friends ko…The law is very clear, if there is a question of unexplained wealth the burden proof is with the government employee." In the interview she referred to him as "anak" while he called her "Ma'am" and "Tita."
A Philippine Congressman gets a salary of P420,000 a year, or P35,000 a month, according to the Commission on Audit.
