"Para sa akin, hindi naman puwede na magkawatak-watak, magkahiwa-hiwa yung puwersa para sa reporma. Eh kung dinala ko po 'to sa kumbensyon, gapangan ng delegates–ang sagwa eh. At ito 'yung gawain ng mga trapo 'no?" says Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas in an interview with Cheche Lazaro on Probe Profiles, to be aired on September 9.
In interviews before and after Roxas decided to give way to Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino as standard bearer of the Liberal Party in the 2010 presidential elections, Roxas talks about his aborted plans and addresses speculations about his announcement.
Aquino announced his presidential bid on the morning of September 9, 40 days after his mother and former President Corazon Aquino died. "I've offered the vice presidential slot to [Roxas]. I'm waiting for his decision," Aquino said.
Roxas also talks about the role that his fiancé, former broadcaster Korina Sanchez, will play, should he eventually become president.
"Well, una, asawa ko. Pinakamahalaga iyon na tulad ng ginagawa niya sa ngayon bilang kasintahan is to take care of me, my soul and my stomach. (laughs) Pangalawa, mahalagang-mahalaga na may mga maasahan kang magsasabi ng buong katotohanan, mapait o mahapdi man."
In a DZMM interview on September 2, Sanchez cried as she defended Roxas against alleged criticism from Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Conrado de Quiros. Sanchez asked de Quiros to apologize for saying presidential aspirants are hungry for power. De Quiros said, "To this day naman, ang feeling ko, tama naman ang sinasabi ko, so I won't apologize for those things," reported PEP.ph.
Probe Profiles will be aired September 9, after Bandila on ABS-CBN. The episodes may also be viewed for free on probetv.com.
