Pampanga Representative and presidential son Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo is being sued for graft by militant government workers at the office of the Ombudsman, reports Inquirer.net.
The complaint, filed September 10, is by the Confederation for Unity, Recognition and Advancement of Government Employees (COURAGE). Says the group's president, Ferdinand Gaite: "With the small salary he gets, it is unacceptable that his assets more than tripled."
During the September 1 live telecast of the GMA-7 TV show Unang Hirit, Arroyo was asked to explain by anchor Solita Monsod how his income rose from P5 million in 2002, to P76 million in 2005, to P99 million in 2008. According to the Commission on Audit, a Philippine Congressman's salary is P420,000 a year, or P35,000 a month. Arroyo replied that a large portion of his wealth came from generous wedding and campaign donors.
