Loren Legarda is Manny Villar's VP
Manny Villar, standard-bearer of the Nacionalista Party (NP), will officially announce at 3:30 p.m. November 17 that Loren Legarda will be his running mate for the May 2010 Presidential Elections. Exactly one year ago, Villar was ousted as Senate president, and Legarda was one of the senators who pushed for his ouster, reports the Inquirer.
The Villar-Legarda team-up was finalized Sunday night over a private dinner. Legarda told the Inquirer, "He told me, 'I believe in your platform on environment, agriculture and climate change,' and I said, 'I believe in your platform on helping migrant workers and pushing for their rights.' In that respect, we clicked right away."
"I want the country to be great again, green again, and what I bring to the vice presidency is a green economy, investments and jobs, and green sustainable development,"she said. Why Villar? Legarda said: "I woke up one day realizing that our platform and aspirations for this country, especially uplifting the poor's lot in life, converged."
