Wired faith: CBCP's Visita Iglesia site gets over 26K visitors

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) online Visita Iglesia site bogged down as over 26,000 Filipino Catholics logged on today, GMANews.TV reports. Many users got error messages when they tried to access the site.

Visita Iglesia is the practice of visiting seven churches on Maundy Thursday. Catholics in other countries even visit as many fourteen churches, marking one of the Stations of the Cross in each church.

Churches featured in the CBCP's Visita Iglesia site are the Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church, Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene (Quiapo Church), San Lorenzo Ruiz Church (Binondo Church), Santo Niño de Tondo Church, Nuestra Señora de Remedios in Malate, Manila, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Shrine in Parañaque City.

Evidently, the public welcomed this technological innovation by the CBCP, who had put up the Visita Iglesia site to allow Filipinos overseas to participate in the Holy Week tradition with their loved ones even if they away from home.
