Get into the green spirit and celebrate with events that show Mother Earth some love.
Now on its 40th year, Earth Day which began on April 22, 1970 with US Senator Gaylord Nelson, has gone beyond raising awareness in America. Today, the Philippines is one of the many countries supporting the cause, with over 1 billion people participating in Earth ï¿½ Day activities worldwide. ï¿½ From concerts to parties, commit to fun Earth-friendly activities this week and strut your green side:
Pasig River Fluvial Parade
When: April 22, 5 a.m. ï¿½ 9 a.m.
Venue: Pasig River, Manila
Take your cause to the waters by joining the annual Pasig River Fluvial Parade. Held every year to celebrate Earth Day, the parade by the Sagip Pasig Movement (SPM), gathers PM workers, community leaders, partners, and friends in a parade of boats along the Pasig River. The event aims to share information and educate people about the state of the country’s rivers.

Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Earth Day 2010 Celebration
When: April 22, 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: CCP Complex, Pasay City
Music, film, health, and food all come together at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Earth Day Event. With the theme "Luntiang Lungsod, Luntiang Sining" (Green City, Green Arts), the sun-up to sundown celebration will open with a Bike-a-thon at 5:00 a.m. followed by a Human Mural which will b formed at 7 a.m. to create the logo of ï¿½ Earth Day.
The festivities will also feature a Green Gym, an aerobics session of Asian traditional movement to be led by Slimmers World, and an exhibition by the Dragon Boat Federation of the Philippines, Poetry on Water, to be held at the Harbour Area. Green stations between the CCP Main Building and the Production Design Center will showcase hands-on demos and lectures on composting, waste segregation, health and wellness tips. Cooking demonstrations highlighting slow food will be featured by the restaurants at the Harbour Square Plaza.
Injecting style into the Earth Day celebration, is the Hat Design Contest, which will be held at the CCP Main Theater Lobby from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration starts at 1:00 p.m. Kids and adults alike can embellish their buri hats (or any hat made from similar materials) with their chosen decorative materials. ï¿½ Prizes up for grabs include buffet dinners in Pan Pacific Hotel, one-month gym memberships, gym bags and gift certificates from Slimmers’ World, as well as tickets to Manila Ocean Park tickets.
Cinemalaya films with environmental themes will also be screened at the CCP Dream Theater while on display at the CCP Lobby are exhibits on Climate Change and ï¿½ the Creative Industry Market, ï¿½ where one can learn how to create artistic products from recycled materials.
The event will close with performances by the Philippine Madrigal Singers, ventriloquist Ony Carcamo and his pet Dodo Bird and Gorilla, BP Kids, Bulacan Brass Symphonic Band, GMA 7 Talent BJ Forbes and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) with Maestro Olivier Ochanine.

Earth Day at Starbucks: use your tumbler and get P40 off on your beverage

Bring your own tumbler when buying your must-have Starbucks brew on April 22 and 23 and get P40 off the price of your beverage. One tumbler used in place of a disposable cup reduces millions in paper and plastic consumption.
Eco-tumblers are also available for sale at select Starbucks cafes, made from Recycled Polypropolene (PP, otherwise known as 100% recycled plastic) and FDA approved virgin materials.

Saving Planet Earth Expo & Conference
When: April 23 -25, 2010 at 10 a.m.
Where: TriNoma Activity Center, TriNoma Mall, Quezon City
Everything green is on the agenda at the "Saving Planet Earth Expo and Conference" with an exhibit of earth-friendly products and technologies as well as talks, seminars and forums on environmental protection and conservation.
Highlights to watch out for: a showcase of the green programs of different companies, corporate social responsibility programs of companies focusing on environment protection, and a chance to question our future leaders on their views on environmental issues in "2010 Presidentiables/ Senatoriables Green Program Forum." Confirmed to attend are Neric Acosta, Martin Bautista, and Silvestre Bello.

Concert: Mother Earth Rocks at Cuenca Park
When: April 22, 3 p.m. ï¿½ 10 p.m.
Where: Cuenca Park, Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa
Celebrate Earth Day with music and watch performances by up and coming bands, Malaia, Speak Easy, Morning Session Boys, Sinag, Stickfigas, Halibas, Juan Lunar, Airport Drama, Wagyu, APlus and Silverfilter.
Admission is free.
Earth Jam 2010
When: April 23, 2010, 7 p.m. onwards
Where: Tomas Morato, Quezon City
Rock out and pay tribute to the Earth Day Movement by joining the party at the Tomas Morato strip. On the line-up are bands 6 Cyclemind, Bembol Rockers, The Bloomfields, Chicosci, Hilera, Imago, Kjwan, Juan Pablo Dream, Up Dharma Down, Kalayo, Lou Bonnevie, Noel Cabangon, Radioactive Sago Project, Session Road, Skabeche, The Dawn, Tropical Depression, Callalily, and Urbandub.
Admission is free.
White Space Green Market
When: April 25, 12 noon to 7 p.m.
Where: Whitespace, 2314 Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Makati City
Come for regionally grown fruits and vegetables, artisanal cheeses, wines, coffee beans, natural health and beauty products, and handmade crafts. Enjoy a hearty sampling of international fare by Margarita Forés’ The Commissary and an exhibition of works at the adjacent Manila Contemporary Gallery.
Everyone is encouraged to bring reusable bags, and bottle caps, and magazines for recycling.

Where: Pasig City Rainforest Park, ï¿½ Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City
Watch Al Gore’s documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" and GMA-7’s Signos: "Babala sa Pagbabago ng Klima", and other documentaries with environmental themes spearheaded by the City Environmental Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Pasig City.
