Robin Padilla sued for promoting condoms by presidentiable JC de los Reyes' senatorial bet
Who would have thought that reformed "Bad Boy of Philippine Movies" Robin Padilla would be sued for endorsing rubbers?
Ang Kapatiran Party (AKP) senatorial candidate and lawyer Jo Aurea Imbong–accompanied by AKP standard bearer JC de los Reyes–filed a complaint at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court against Padilla and condom manufacturer DKT Philippines, Inc. on Friday, May 7, reports Inquirer.net.
The AKP's objective was to stop the firm from promoting the use of condoms, as well as Padilla from advertising Trust Condoms, a brand under the Trust Family Planning line of contraceptive products. According to Imbong and AKP, the promotion of condoms was an affront to public decency and morality.
In her complaint, Imbong stated, "It is respectfully prayed that a writ of preliminary injunction be issued ordering defendant Padilla to cease and desist from publicly espousing and promoting condoms and condom use."
She likewise told Inquirer.net: "The history of great civilizations shows that when its citizens bastardized sex and separated sexuality from marriage, these great civilizations disintegrated. We call on Padilla to reexamine his attitude. He should be a good role model for the young."
Imbong emphasized that both Padilla and DKT Phils. Inc. violated provisions of the Revised Penal Code. She said that the advertiser violated Article 201 of the RPC that punishes immoral doctrines, obscene publications and exhibitions. Padilla, she explained, violated Article 200 which punishes grave scandal when he publicly promoted and endorsed the use of condoms.
For his part, De los Reyes said he supported Imbong's move. "I am aghast that my children are asking why condoms are being sold in convenience stores beside candies," he told Inquirer.net.
In any case, pundits are sure to question the timing of the filing of Imbong's complaint.
