Ruffa Gutierrez cries in Avon's domestic violence forum
TV host Ruffa Gutierrez shed tears as she listened to stories of domestic violence at Avon Philippines' "Speak Out Against Domestic Violence" forum on May 20, reports FemaleNetwork.com.
Gutierrez, the event host and Avon's endorser and ambassador of the cause, remembered the alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of her estranged husband, Yilmaz Bektas, when she and their two daughters were living with him in Turkey.
"Siyempre naalala ko rin 'yung time ko nang pumunta ako dito, umalis ako sa Istanbul and I started a new life. I had nothing…buti nandiyan ang pamilya ko to help me," she said, reports GMANews.tv.
"Ngayon, tingnan niyo ang buhay ko three years later. I feel very blessed... God was able to give me a second chance. Mag-isa akong bumubuhay sa dalawang anak ko. Wala akong tulong na hiningi kay Yilmaz. Masarap 'yung pakiramdam ko ngayon," Gutierrez said as reported by PEP.ph.
Theater actresses Liesl Batucan, Stella Cañete and Irma Adlawan dramatized real-life stories of domestic violence that moved Gutierrez to tears.
Gutierrez also became emotional talking about one of her yayas in Turkey, a witness to what she suffered, who now has cancer.
"I just want to say that I'll be there for her kasi siya lang ang kakampi ko sa Istanbul. Noong time na nag-aaway kami ni Yilmaz, 'yung dalawang yaya lang 'yung kausap ko. Sila lang 'yung nakakaintindi sa akin. Kasi sila lang din 'yung mga Pilipinong kasama ko doon," PEP.ph quoted her as saying.
