Lee DeWyze wins American Idol, Simon Cowell bids goodbye
DeWyze covers U2's "Beautiful Day" at the American Idol 2010 finale.
Lee DeWyze was declared as the latest American Idol champ at the show's finale held at the Nokia Theatre on Wednesday, May 26 in Los Angeles, reports JustJared.com.
Former paint salesman DeWyze, 24, edged out Crystal Bowersox, a 24-year-old single mom from Ohio.
Dewyze's winning moment, though, was almost eclipsed by the fact that Simon Cowell, the show's most feared judge, bid farewell to American Idol. Cowell had weighed in on AI hopefuls' performances for nine seasons. Former Idol judge Paula Abdul, along with some of the show's past contestants, paid tribute to Cowell.
Chicago, Hall & Oates, Alice Cooper, Janet Jackson, Alanis Morrissette, and other big name artists also performed in the two-hour finale.
Meanwhile, rumors about Abdul's return to AI are stronger than ever.
