"Avenue Q" retains Gary Coleman character after his death
The award-winning Broadway play "Avenue Q" will keep the character based on Gary Coleman, reports CBSnews.com. Coleman, 42, passed away May 28 due to brain hemorrhage.
Avenue Q's creative team decided to make minor changes to the role based on Gary Coleman with the same name, played by Danielle Thomas. Jeff Whitty, the book writer for the puppet-musical told NYtimes.com that they changed some of the lines from the play: a line in which the Coleman character refers to himself as a "former child star" became "child star."
The character based on Gary Coleman is a building superintendent and is introduced in the show's opening number with the song, "It Sucks to Be Me." In the Manila production of the musical, former child star Aiza Seguerra played this role to great acclaim.
Avenue Q, which has received three 2004 Tony Awards is now running off-Broadway.
