Noynoy vows crackdown on corrupt officials, tells GMA "it can't be business as usual"
During his first press conference after his proclamation, President-elect Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III said he is willing to work with his political rivals but it "cannot be business as usual" with outgoing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. "I think I would have disappointed everybody who made this victory possible," he said, in a report by GMANews.TV.
Aquino held his first press conference after being proclaimed as the country's 15th president at the House of Representatives in Quezon City on June 9. Aquino was also firm in saying that he will not keep AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Delfin Bangit as head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Aquino also answered questions about his marriage plans. ""Kakausapin ko pa si Madam Auring kung meron siyang prediction non."
When asked about Mar Roxas, Aquino said, "I understand that he's out of town. I plan to give him some space and when he's ready to start discussing certain party matters and other issues." Aquino also told GMA-7's Jessica Soho during their one-one-one interview that he texted Roxas and told him that a large part of his victory is because of Mar Roxas. "Sabi ko dati at a press conference, after the one-year ban, I will be doing a disservice to the people if I don't get him inside the Cabinet and help him addressing the issues that are confronting us today."
Aquino also told Soho that he will work with elected vice-president Jejomar Binay. "Mag-uusap kami kung saan kami pwede magkatugma sa pananaw, sa methodology na gagawin natin, at sa direction ng priorities. Pagkatapos po non, pipilitin natin magkaroon ng harmonious relationship."
