UPDATED: Shangri-La Makati food and beverage manager Sergio Mazza shot dead in Legaspi Village at 7 a.m.
(First posted, 9:30 a.m., updated 11:20 a.m., 1:01 p.m. and at 1:59 p.m.) At 8:30 a.m. today, ABS-CBN radio station dzMM reported that a man identified as "the Italian food and beverage manager of Makati Shangri-La-Manila" was shot dead at 7 a.m. on Perea Street, Legaspi Village, Makati City.
Citing a dzMM report, ABS-CBNNews.com revealed: "Initial reports said Sergio Mazza was shot dead near the Mom and Tina's Cafe at the corner of Dela Costa and Peria streets around 7:15 a.m." [Correction: De La Rosa St., not De La Costa St.–Spot.ph]. Mom and Tina's Cafe is across the Shangri-la Grand Tower building where Mazza was said to reside. The official press statement of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel Manila says Mazza was "shot by unknown assailants on the street while he was on his way to work."
Police Officer 3 Emerson Ladronio of the Makati City Police told dzMM that Mazza died of three gunshot wounds in the head. Bombo Radyo Philippines reports that police have junked the "holdup" motive as Mazza's cellphone (a Blackberry, according to a SPOT.ph witness) was found beside his body at the crime scene; and that the bullet shells recovered from the crime scene came from a .22 caliber gun.
As of this posting, police are still investigating the incident. No other details are available about the incident. Keep logged on to SPOT.ph for more updates.
