James Yap leads basketball team to a win despite marital woes with Kris Aquino
Yap's focus was on the match against Ginebra, he told TV Patrol the day before the game, the same day that Aquino's close friend Boy Abunda announced at a school in Cebu that the couple is having problems. His focus paid off; he scored 21 points including four three-pointers and was named player of the game.
His manager Dondon Monteverde told TV Patrol, "James is really focused and serious with his games. He must remain concentrated because he has obligations to the fans and management of B-Meg." Monteverde hopes Yap and Aquino reconcile "for the sake of the kids."
Meanwhile, Aquino, dubbed the "Queen of Talk" by some, has chosen to remain quiet about their marital problems. Her official statement aired on SNN on June 22 reads:
"There have been series of life-altering events in my life this past year–from our mother's death to my brother's election, and now my moving in a different direction as far as my career is concerned. Lastly, there is this state of my marriage.
"I would like to say that where I am now is a result of many months fortitude and in the last couple of months, careful thought. My sole priority is the well being of my sons, Josh and Bimby. We are together, they are in my care and it's my intention and prayer to make this period of our lives to be as free from trauma as possible.
"I chose to keep my silence primarily because my current state is not one for celebration or lengthy discussion but rather prayer, private reflection, and quiet. It is in the best interest of my two sons that I remain quiet most especially because I shouldn't make what's already difficult become more painful."
