Charlene Gonzales and Toni Gonzaga made their grand debut as the new co-hosts of The Buzz during its latest episode onJuly 11, reports ABS-CBNNews.com. The two have replaced Kris Aquino, who has left the show in order to maintain a low, less controversial profile now that her brother Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino has become President.
Gonzales, who has been pretty much in semi-retirement since she became a wife and mother in 2001 save for TV commercials and advertising endorsements, has opted to stay out of the colorful showbiz limelight for almost a decade. Asked why she decided to make a comeback, and as a showbiz talk show at that, Gonzales playfully said, "Well, ayoko nang maging safe. Gusto ko nang rumampa tuwing linggo (in my studded heels)." The 1994 Binibining Pilipinas-Universe said her husband, actor Aga Muhlach, gave her permission to join the show. "He was supposed to be here today pero may shooting pa siya."
In Gonzales’ introductory video, Muhlach said, "I’m just very happy that she’s back to work now. Hindi niya sinasabi ’yun but I’m sure she really missed it. I’m excited and nervous but I’m sure she’s gonna do well. She has always wanted to co-host with Mr. Boy Abunda... Ingat kayo sa mga tsismis diyan ha. Dahil andiyan ang misis ko (laughs)."
Gonzaga said, "I’m happy kasi I’m looking forward to working with the best." Former co-host of another ABS-CBN showbiz talk show, Entertainment Live, Gonzaga tearfully addressed her former co-hosts Luis Manzano, Bianca Gonzalez and Mariel Rodriguez, "I wouldn’t have done everything without you, your help and support. Maraming salamat sa tatlong taon na magkakasama kami kasi na-share ko lahat sa kanila. Mamimiss ko kayo."
Gonzales and Gonzaga join The Buzz co-hosts Boy Abunda and KC Concepcion, who replaced Ruffa Gutierrez. Abunda said, "This is a dream come true for us."
