Family and supporters commemorate Cory Aquino’s first death anniversary
The family and supporters of the late former Pres. Corazon "Cory" Aquino are coming up with their own ways to commemorate her first death anniversary on August 1.
The group called Cory Veterans, along with Cory’s other family friends, are gearing up for the grand unveiling of the giant photo mosaic of Cory at the Quirino Grandstand on July 31, reports ABS-CBNNews.com. Thousands of photos from the Internet and different sectors were used to create the photo mosaic printed on a tarpaulin that is 250 by 200 feet, bigger than the Guinness record 93 by 68 feet Cory photo mosaic. With 100 athletes, Cory’s son Pres. Noynoy Aquino will unveil the photo mosaic.
News program 24 Oras reported that Cory-inspired watches, dolls, umbrellas, posters and more products are now for sale. Part of the proceeds goes to the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation (formerly the Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. Foundation).
Groups like the West Triangle Kapitbahay Movement, composed of those who live near the Aquino home along Times Street, Quezon City, started planting on July 30 the yellow Kabalyero as well as the Golden Shower trees along Times Street and Quezon Avenue, with the help of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. The group called for Filipinos to plant yellow flowers in their own backyard, reports 24 Oras.
The entire Aquino family will go to the memorial mass at La Salle Greenhills in Mandaluyong City on August 1 and then proceed to her resting place beside her husband Ninoy’s grave at the Manila Memorial Park.
