GMA News airs CCTV footage of Rep. Ronald Singson skipping security checks at NAIA
GMA News procured and aired on 24 Oras CCTV footage of Rep. Ronald Singson’s departure from NAIA Terminal 2 on July 11, a few hours before he was arrested for drug possession at the Chek Lap Kok airport in Hong Kong.
The footage shows that Singson was not subjected to requisite airport security measures using the metal detector and X-ray machine. In the video, Singson is seen entering the immigration area past 5 p.m., accompanied by a man (also a passenger) in a white shirt and shorts. Also noticeable in the video is a man in a white long-sleeved shirt escorting the two through immigration, personally handing to the officer of the day the passports and papers of the two and returning the documents to them after they are stamped. It even appears that the two did not have to pay the terminal fee.
Singson is seen up close in the video wearing a t-shirt, a bag slung over his shoulder and dark-colored pants, which according to the Department of Foreign Affairs, concealed the cocaine he was caught with at the Hong Kong airport. Instead of having Singson and his companion join the queue at the X-Ray machine, their long-sleeved escort leads the two to bypass the line and skip going through the machine. In the video, the guard standing by the machine seems surprised to see the three merely breeze through the required security procedure.
In reaction to this finding, DOJ Secretart Lilia de Lima said "We will investigate. We’re also having problems d’un sa mga nakaaklusot, sa human trafficking. Nababahala kami." She says they will investigate the abuse of special privileges granted to certain passengers going through our international airports. "It’s the proper time now to make a major reshuffle or revamp in personnel kasi bakit may nakakalusot?" she said.
Atty. Ronaldo Ledesma, Bureau of Immigration OIC, said " We will see to it that all those who violate the law directly or indirectly are charged and prosecuted in accordance with the law."
