A day after the University of the Philippines men’s senior basketball team finished winless in the current UAAP season, the UP Pep Squad gave the State University a huge morale boost when they won the UAAP Cheerdance Competition on September 12. The UP Pep Squad took the crown back from the Far Eastern University (FEU) Cheering Squad, who thwarted the Diliman-based team’s three-peat bid last year, in front of a 22,000-strong crowd at the Araneta Coliseum. Another major Cheerdance player, the University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe placed third after missing a Top 3 slot last year.
The UP Pep Squad garnered a cumulative score of 440.9 points with their Filipino fiesta theme, while the FEU Cheering Squad got 421.4 points with their Samurai theme, reports GMANews.tv. Taking on a tiger theme, the Salinggawi Dance Troupe scored 407.5 points.
UAAP Cheerdance sponsor Samsung awarded P340,000 and Samsung Champ mobile phones to the UP Pep Squad; P200,000 to the FEU Cheering Squad; and P140,000 to the Salinggawi Dance Troupe.
